In spring training news, reports indicate that the New York Yankees are set to announce the signing of Chan Ho Park to a one year deal. The signing would mean a solid, extremely versatile addition to the pitching staff of the Yanks. While Park has announced the deal as being final, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman would not confirm the deal, only saying the team was interested in the 36-year old athlete.

Park enjoyed a renaissance last year with a phenomenal season that especially highlighted the pitcher's versatility. With his ability to work long and short, and with the Yankees rebuilding their bullpen, Park could be set to play an important role. It's also important to note that Park's versatility means he could play a role in the starting rotation, depending on the overall state of the bullpen and where the team decides to use pitchers.

In other MLB spring training happenings, it's being reported that the Baltimore Orioles' Brian Roberts arrived at spring training with a herniated disc. Roberts' health is vital to the Orioles' success, and any injury potentially requiring surgery is genuine cause for concern. Roberts has downplayed the severity however, indicating that he did not think the condition would require surgery, and that he would be ready for opening day. However, the tendency for back injuries to both linger as well as debilitate is a fact that the Orioles - and sportsbook oddsmakers must be cognizant of. A player suffering from pain will almost certainly see their strength and speed diminish.
