When it comes to sports betting on the MLB, tracking the totals on each game requires you to find interesting trends. One such trend that has a significant impact on the outcome of the amount of runs scored in a baseball game is the umpire effect. As the name suggests, depending on who is behind home plate, you can predict whether the game will go over or under the total. Today we’ll look at the difference in umpire approaches.
When it comes to handicapping umpires, it is all about the strike zone. Some umpires use a wider strike zone then others. As a result, a game may be higher or lower in the amount of total runs scored then in other games. For instance, in 2006, when umpire Mike Everett was the home plate umpire, the bookie software total went over on 22 occasions and under just 12 times. Everett had a narrow strike zone, which in turn allowed for the hitters to walk and get on base more. <
If you look at the 2006 baseball year as a whole, you will notice, that 23 umpires saw their totals go over 60 percent of the time, while others saw their totals go under 40 percent of the time. What’s more? In the games with Everett behind home plate, 2006 and 2007 were completely different years. In essence, in 2006 as we noted, the games went over the total 22 times and under 12 times. Yet, in 2007 the games went over the total 12 times and under the total 18 times. Meaning to say, what exactly changed so much?
Similar to a sportsbook adjusting the odds on a pitcher start after start, it is fair to assume that pitchers also adjusted their approach year after year to the umpire. In other words, the pitcher made adjustments to assure that they would get the strikes according to the umpire’s strike zone. |

How To Create A One Run Line |

When it comes to sports betting on baseball, experienced gamblers usually do one of two things, when taking a favorite, they either bet the favorite on the money line, or they play the run line. The run line, as the name suggests, provides the bettor with an advantage if they take the underdog or if they take the favorite, a bigger payout, if the favorite wins by more then one run. Today, for your bookie software pleasure, we’ll be looking at how to create a one run line, as it can make the game even more enticing to wager on.
In order to reduce the risk of losing your money if the favorite wins by a run instead of two runs on the run line, you can also make a one run line. To make a one run line, you have to make two separate bets. Firstly, you would bet upon the normal run line, which is one and a half runs. Then, you would also place a wager on the money line, for the favorite to win the game. Meaning to say, if the MLB favorite wins the game by a single run, your wager is a push, since the money line bet, nullifies the run line bet.
When it comes to creating a one run line, there are a few different factors to consider. Firstly, if you are making a favorite one run line, you have to follow the steps above, which require you to risk money on the team as a favorite as well as on the run line. However, an issue to consider is if the favorite is on the road or at home. If the favorite is at home, they may have reduced odds then if they were on the road. This can affect, how much money you get back from your wager. |

PayPerHead.com, an online sportsbook service provider for local agents, today unveiled a new campaign featuring Vince Curatola, Johnny Sack of The Sopranos fame.
The campaign leads with Vince asking "Five bucks per head, that's what I wanna pay..." and the website, featuring video and voice overs by Vince, walks you through the product, the process and the competition.
"Five bucks a head is really an industry first given our level of service," a spokesman from PayPerHead.com explained. "And we very carefully and in great detail delineate on the website exactly what you get and at what price level at PayPerHead versus the other serious players, such as IDSca."
And what you get is a lot, including not only the traditional online sports betting management services but an optional casino, live poker, in game live betting, mobile betting, tools for managing players and their funds, layoff and scalp accounts, even a "sharp check." "We have the sharpest lines out there and one of the most experienced stages anywhere offshore," the spokesman said, "so if we start seeing sharp action from one of your players, we can give you a heads up. What you want to do with him is up to you."
The choice of Vince Curatola was an interesting one. "We always liked Vince's character on The Sopranos, as John "Johnny Sack" Sacramoni," the PayPerHead spokesman said. "He had a certain style, classy, but not over the top; there's a calmness and authority about him that we really admire. He brings that serious business demeanor to PayPerHead.com, the first sportsbook-service to EVER feature any kind of celebrity in its marketing."
With post-up books like BetUS, Sportsbook.com and SportsInteraction stopping taking US players, Bodog and others struggling with "Ecom" processing problems, the street scene is heating up and players are posting daily in forums looking for a "local out." Players want the huge selection of markets, including live in-game betting, and the convenience of anytime betting online or via their mobile, but more and more say "they want to bet online but prefer to settle in cash on Monday."
Is this the future of online sports betting? Quite possibly. And with firms like PayPerHead.com investing in marketing in an unprecedented way (celebs, who'd have thunk it?!) and in product (they also offer live poker, casino and in-game betting), expect to see this sector grow significantly this season.

With hockey, basketball, and golf all going on, there is plenty of opportunity to bet on sports. What's more, 2010 World Cup betting as the globe's biggest sporting event nears. Baseball too is in full swing, however in a long season it is important to keep track of the ups and downs in the league.
One of the hottest teams in the majors right now is the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have won eight straight, including a series swept over division rival San Diego. They have moved up the standings are now are only two games back in the West, trailing the Padres and the San Francisco Giants. The recent streak has been built on great team pitching; they have allowed only six runs in their past four games, ad no more than three in any of the games in their eight victories.
However, despite their recent successes, the Dodgers suffered a big blow over the weekend. They have lost their best player to injury, as Andre Ethier fractured his pinky finger during batting practice on Saturday. He will be out for an unknown amount of time as the team decides whether to place him on the 15-day DL.
Ethier is far and away their best hitter of the season, and irreplaceable in the middle of the lineup. He leads the NL in batting average and RBIs, and has hit 11 home runs, tying him for the league lead. If they are to continue their winning ways, Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp, and James Loney will have to step up at the plate. Ramirez in fact may be the key, with his carefree attitude and ability to summon power out of nowhere and remain unaffected by his surroundings.
The NL West is incredibly tight, with Colorado in fourth place only two games back of the Dodgers. The schedule does not get any easier for the Dodgers while Ethier is out: the Padres, Tigers, Cubs, and Rockies are on the slate in the next 10 days. |
