When it comes to sports betting on the MLB, tracking the totals on each game requires you to find interesting trends. One such trend that has a significant impact on the outcome of the amount of runs scored in a baseball game is the umpire effect. As the name suggests, depending on who is behind home plate, you can predict whether the game will go over or under the total. Today we’ll look at the difference in umpire approaches.
When it comes to handicapping umpires, it is all about the strike zone. Some umpires use a wider strike zone then others. As a result, a game may be higher or lower in the amount of total runs scored then in other games. For instance, in 2006, when umpire Mike Everett was the home plate umpire, the bookie software total went over on 22 occasions and under just 12 times. Everett had a narrow strike zone, which in turn allowed for the hitters to walk and get on base more. <
If you look at the 2006 baseball year as a whole, you will notice, that 23 umpires saw their totals go over 60 percent of the time, while others saw their totals go under 40 percent of the time. What’s more? In the games with Everett behind home plate, 2006 and 2007 were completely different years. In essence, in 2006 as we noted, the games went over the total 22 times and under 12 times. Yet, in 2007 the games went over the total 12 times and under the total 18 times. Meaning to say, what exactly changed so much?
Similar to a sportsbook adjusting the odds on a pitcher start after start, it is fair to assume that pitchers also adjusted their approach year after year to the umpire. In other words, the pitcher made adjustments to assure that they would get the strikes according to the umpire’s strike zone. |

When it comes to sports betting on baseball, experienced gamblers usually do one of two things, when taking a favorite, they either bet the favorite on the money line, or they play the run line. The run line, as the name suggests, provides the bettor with an advantage if they take the underdog or if they take the favorite, a bigger payout, if the favorite wins by more then one run. Today, for your bookie software pleasure, we’ll be looking at how to create a one run line, as it can make the game even more enticing to wager on.
In order to reduce the risk of losing your money if the favorite wins by a run instead of two runs on the run line, you can also make a one run line. To make a one run line, you have to make two separate bets. Firstly, you would bet upon the normal run line, which is one and a half runs. Then, you would also place a wager on the money line, for the favorite to win the game. Meaning to say, if the MLB favorite wins the game by a single run, your wager is a push, since the money line bet, nullifies the run line bet.
When it comes to creating a one run line, there are a few different factors to consider. Firstly, if you are making a favorite one run line, you have to follow the steps above, which require you to risk money on the team as a favorite as well as on the run line. However, an issue to consider is if the favorite is on the road or at home. If the favorite is at home, they may have reduced odds then if they were on the road. This can affect, how much money you get back from your wager. |

In the sports betting world, wagering on baseball, is a distant third in popularity, in comparison to football and basketball. Nevertheless, baseball is the one sport that whether you are new to betting or more experienced, you can always turn a profit, because the bookie software regular season is 162 games long. Sometimes, bettors have the opportunity to wager on a double header. Here is an MLB guide to doubleheader gambling.
A doubleheader as the name suggests, takes place, when a two teams face each other twice in the same day, rather then have the games spread out over two days. The reason for a doubleheader naturally stems from inclement weather the night before. For example, when a game is rained out, the MLB> will elect to have the two teams play the remainder of the rained out game the following day, and then have them play the game scheduled for that day later that night.
From a player and team standpoint, a doubleheader can be both a good and bad thing, depending on the teams playing. On the one hand, the players and managements and umpires do not want to play a doubleheader, because it’s twice the work as a normal game. On the other hand, having a doubleheader, can allow for bettors to stay at the ballpark, and place money on a certain team, after trends from the first game.
One of the most common betting systems used during doubleheaders, is called the chase system. In this system, the bettor raises the value of their wager on the second game, contingent on the result of the first. For example, if a team loses in the first game of the double dip, the bettor is to risk more money on the second game, as the team may bounce back. |

The 2011 MLB offseason may go down as one of the most historic in the last 15 years. From two teams receiving new ownership, to several marquee free agents finding new homes for ridiculous amounts of money, the 2011 offseason has had fans chomping at the bit for the upcoming season. If all the usual fuss wasn’t enough, bookie software agents still have the new wild card spots and realignment for 2013 to mull over. Here is the latest offseason news.
Coming out of the winter meetings, it appears as though the American League West, will soon become the MLB sports betting toughest division in baseball. Currently made up of the Texas Rangers, LA Angels, Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners, the AL West is set to welcome the Houston Astros in 2013 as a part of realignment. However, many fans and analysts alike are calling the Texas Rangers and LA Angels, the new Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees of the American League.
For those of you unfamiliar with the LA Angels moves this offseason, here is a quick recap. Last week in a span of 12 hours, the Angels went from a relatively quiet offseason to one of the busiest. First, the Angels signed former Texas Rangers ace CJ Wilson to a five year $75 million contract. Then, they topped themselves, by signing the best first baseman in the history of baseball, as they acquired Albert Pujols for 10 years and $255 million dollars. Wilson adds his name to an already legendary rotation, including the likes of Jared Weaver, Ervin Santana, and Dan Haren. The MLB offseason is finally getting interesting, as winter meetings are scheduled to start this coming weekend. It feels like forever since fans and media alike had an opportunity to watch meaningful baseball games, as the World Series was almost a month ago. Here is the latest news as we look ahead to the winter meetings.
The Toronto Blue Jays are going to be one of the busiest teams during the winter meetings. General Manager Alex Anthopoulos has been hard at work, trying to scout out potential free agents or trading partners that will help his franchise. One area not expected to be of concern, is catcher. Despite allowing backup catcher Jose Molina to sign with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays have enough depth in the system that a tandem of JP Arencibia and Brian Jeroloman could happen next season. If the latter is not in the cards, sports betting enthusiast may be able to watch a tandem of Arencibia and highly touted prospect Travis D’Arnaud who appears ready to take to the big leagues.
Another team that may in fact make a splash this offseason is the Houston Astros. Earlier this offseason, the MLB shocked bookie software agents, by not only allowing for the Astros to be purchased by a new owner, but by also confirming that the Astros will move to the American League in 2013. As a result, the new ownership fired the current management team, in an attempt to start fresh. This could lead to the Astros being in the sweepstakes for some of the free agents on the market. Could Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson wind up in Houston?
What’s more, the MLB will be adding two wild card teams to the playoffs this coming season. By all accounts, teams such as the Astros and Blue Jays, will now have a fairer chance of making the playoffs. |
